This picture above that I have taken is from my home on Hong Kong, Both these pictures are taken at the same place at two different times. One during a beautiful sunset and the other during a storm. Both these pictures even though they re of the same thing, as one veiws the picture we interpret very different things. As an observer we perceive this particular image with knowledge and as we see it and hence have different emotions for both.
Moreover we believe what we see. Perceptions narrow down our emotions and knowledge. While looking at pictures like this, us humans see only what we want to see with the help of the knowledge we know. Like take the picture of the sunset, it is a phenomenal sight to see. What makes it splendid to look at is the large granduer orange fireball surrounded by clouds. The setting sun sets the sky ablaze with a combination of a flaming orange and light pink and magnifies the ocean. Hence with the help of empirical knowledge value judgments (normative) and one's basic view of the world (metaphysical) we interpret that this sunset suggests happy things and an end of a magnificent day. The colours in the picture highlight the idea of spirituality and love. The sunlight casts a sparkling shadow on the water. This shimmering effect helps us make a judgement that it was a good day and creates an emotion which gives us a sense of relief and some happiness.
Additionally, the picture of the storm even though shot at the same place it provides a completely different impression to the obserever. The monstrous black clouds create a terrifying atmosphere over the over the dark rough and violent sea. The colours in this picture are very different to that of the sunset. There is no sunlight, all the colours in this picture are pale and dark. Hence creating a sinister effect. The picture illustrates a gloomy and stormy day. The fact that there is a huge black cloud shielding the sky makes us see and perceive something violent and bad. And suggests a bad time approaching.
Therefore, through these pictures I can say that every picture creates a different perception. We might be seeing the same thing, but the colours and situation make us see and believe only what we want to, hence we remember only what we see. The message these pictures send are very different. Hence we see very different things.
